UW Bioengineering currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST ENGINEER 1.
The purpose of this position is to conduct high-level programming and analysis in the prosthetic science and technology program in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington. The program involves a number of projects and researchers as well as the public, i.e. human subject volunteers with limb loss. The candidate will exercise independent engineering skill and judgment to advance development of bioengineering aspects of innovative technologies in prosthetics.
Incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:
Design user interfaces for operation and control of novel prosthetic devices
Build mobile applications for Android implementing said user interfaces
Participate in conducting human subject studies for prosthetic research
Conduct design reviews with research team and with study volunteers
Document work clearly for preparation of manuscripts and funding agency progress reports
Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, Design or Related Discipline.
Three months to a year experience.
Minimum of 6 months experience working in a research or industry environment.
Strong critical thinking and analysis aptitude
Ability to independently prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines; ability to delegate tasks and seek help
Ability to present data and analysis results in clear, readily understandable form to non- technical audiences
Ability to interact regularly with and gather feedback from clinicians and amputee study volunteers
Capability to work well with a team of interdisciplinary engineers and practitioners
Willingness and ability to learn basic operation and function of novel electromechanical systems
Experience designing user interfaces
Basic Java programming ability or experience (may be substituted by advanced experience with other programming languages similar to Java)
Experience designing user interfaces specifically tailored for presenting technical data to wide audiences
Proficiency in Java programming
Proficiency in Matlab
Proficiency in Python programming
Experience developing Android applications
Experience developing applications for other platforms, particularly mobile (iOS, Windows Phone, etc.)
Ability to develop Web pages and Web applications
Capability to write manuscript-quality descriptions of research efforts and results
