We are recruiting Program Managers for next academic year. Program Managers (PMs) are responsible for the Row Houses at Stanford University. These are relatively small communities of about 30 - 60 upperclassmen. While many of the Row houses were at one point associated with a fraternity or sorority, only nine of the current Row Houses remain affiliated. What really makes the Row different from the rest of campus is our Student Manager program. Student Managers are undergraduates who serve as staff within a particular Row House. These student staff members are heavily engaged in the operations and educational design of each house. Toward that end, each house has a Kitchen Manager who runs a commercial grade kitchen; a Financial Manager who manages the house budget; a Community Manager who supports the physical infrastructure and social calendar of the house; a Residential Computing Consultant who provides residents with 24/7 tech support and training; and a Resident Assistant. Row students are deeply invested in their communities and we in ResEd work with them to ensure that their decisions are informed by our educational expertise and in line with university policy.
Program Managers oversee the work of the Student Managers, provide guidance to the student staff, execute programs for residents, and broadly attend to the various tasks related to blurring what happens inside and outside of the classroom. PMs also work with other ResEd Professional Staff (REPS) members to develop, plan, and execute campus-wide initiatives. These initiatives include the unit-bearing courses required of student staff members, as well as the campus-wide student staff selection process.
Administer, implement, and interpret university and department policies and procedures on issues related to student life. Identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.
Administer an area or program in student services, evaluate and recommend decisions on program eligibility. Review decisions recommended by other staff.
Collaborate with others to help resolve program issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues.
Resolve multi-dimensional matters in response to students in crisis, at risk, or who have other program issues, counsel students and parents on sensitive and confidential issues.
Provide guidance and counsel, oversee and develop a wide range of programs and services, analyze effectiveness and make recommendations for future programs.
Reconcile complex issues; analyze diverse transactions from multiple sources.
Summarize data from multiple sources, prepare management reports and presentations.
Identify and evaluate data needs, manage the implementation and development of technology.
Develop and Implement plans for outreach efforts, develop and maintain external community and university liaison represent department and university at meetings and events.
Provide advice to students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, make recommendations and may award grants.
Serve as a subject matter expert to other departments; represent unit/department.
Lead, create and contribute to development of business practices and organizational change to improve processes and workflow.
May oversee, analyze and assist in financial processes and development of budgets.
Serve as a key member of university wide teams and projects.
May train and supervise other staff, volunteers and temporary workers.

Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.
Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Advanced customer service skills.
Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
Understanding of financial transactions.
Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
Certifications and Licenses:
Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

About the Unit
Residential Education (ResEd) works very closely with our partners in Student Housing, Housing concerns itself with all of the physical infrastructure of the residences; all of the sticks, bricks, buildings, and keys - all of what we call the hardware related to the residences. ResEd, on the other hand, concerns itself with all of the people, programs, teaching and learning - all of the software that helps make the houses feel more like homes. Obviously, the hardware and the software need one another to create one cohesive experience and so, ResEd & Student Housing are very close partners. But, unlike in other institutions where one is nested inside the other, or where they both report up to the same group, at Stanford we are both part of bifurcated system. Student Housing reports up to Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), while ResEd reports up to the Vice Provost of Student Affairs. Together, we support over 80 undergraduate residences where over 98% of our students live for all four years of their time on The Farm.
