Overview of Position:
This position is for Sixth Grade Math Teacher. The successful candidate will report to the Middle School Division Head, and will be responsible for the following:
Teach and oversee four sections of 6th grade math.
Serve on the 6th grade team with ongoing collaboration with other grade team members.
Collaborate with the other math teachers to ensure cohesive delivery of the math program as well as technology and library departments to implement and refine existing curriculum and ensure quality of overall program.
Lead an advisory group of 12 students.
Manage a dedicated 6th grade math assistant.
Teach a weekly elective (topic of your choice).
Participate in a week-long environmental education trip.
Oversee a “family” of mixed-grade students once a week.
Maintain contact with parents.
Write narrative reports for all 6th grade students.
Participate in parent/teacher conferences.
Serve on Admissions Committee and help evaluate sixth grade prospective students.
Recommend students for placement in standard-paced or accelerated math for seventh grade.
The candidate must have:
Three or more years’ teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level
Competency with pre-algebra
Experience with differentiated learning and teaching styles
Experience with multiple modes of instruction, including hands-on and project-based learning
Ability to create and/or adapt math curricula for various learning styles and abilities
Commitment to early adolescent education and social/emotional development
Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom community that allows for a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected
Ability and willingness to work in teams
Ability to effectively communicate with prospective and current parents
A passion for math education and its instruction
The ideal candidate would also have:
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Sense of humor
Excellent interpersonal skills
Commitment to anti-bias learning
Duties school-wide include:
Participation on Admissions Committee and other committees as needed and appropriate
Ancillary duties include responsibilities that are part of middle school life, e.g., team and staff meetings, attendance at school functions, recess duties, etc.
