The Young Lab currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST ENGINEER 4 to support research using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) to study genetic variation leading to the predisposition for sporadic Alzheimer's disease (SAD).
This position will support Research activities including but not limited to:
Leading new projects to construct and analyze mutant and variant cell lines using CRISPR.
Leading new projects to develop and characterize hiPSC lines generated from SAD patients.
Leading new projects to develop direct conversion protocols from patient fibroblasts to neurons.
Conduct high-throughput analysis of molecular networks in neurons derived by direct conversion and iPSC technology.
Assist in the supervision, training and evaluation of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Assist the PI in manuscript writing, grant writing and represent the lab at national and international meetings.
Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or M.D.) in Molecular, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or similar; Four or more years' experience or an equivalent of education/experience
Experience in leading a research projects, including supervision of other research scientists and students; knowledge in the field of mammalian cell culture, cell aging, diseases of aging; ability to support research programs involving molecular & cell biology and genetics as they apply to the biology and diseases of aging. Ability to identify funding; lead research documentations for publication and grant submission.
This position requires performing laboratory research independently. The main techniques include cell culture (cell lines and pluripotent stem cells); neural and neuronal differentiations; molecular biology, including knowledge of CRISPR/Cas9; Flow Cytometry and FACS, and basic cell biological techniques: immunostaining, western blotting, immunoprecipitations. Knowledge of engineering libraries for high-throughput sequencing, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, and single cell analysis a plus.
Doctoral Degree in Molecular, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry or related field. Six or more years' of relevant research experience.
