The Director is responsible for the overall planning, development and administration of Disability Support Services, as well as ensuring that disability services on campus are coordinated and in compliance with state and federal disability laws and CSU Chancellor Executive Orders. The Director will supervise faculty and staff, as well as numerous student workers and will oversee the provision of direct services to students with disabilities. The Director must be a forward thinking, innovative leader with strategies and solutions to meet the demands of a model public comprehensive university. In executing these duties, the Director communicates and collaborates effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and students regarding the needs of students with disabilities; designs and implements innovative programs and services; maintains records and collects appropriate data; assesses programs and services and administers departmental budgets. Other duties as assigned.
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in in Public Administration, Counseling, Special Education, Rehabilitation, or a closely related field and a minimum of five years of experience effectively managing a program or department and developing new programs and/or initiatives, preferably in disability services, is required. Demonstrated expertise in the many facets of disability (both visible and invisible) including assessment of accommodation needs, rehabilitation, independent living, medical terminology, legal issues, assistive technology and other resources is preferred. Demonstrated expertise in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and knowledge of the American's with Disabilities Act as it relates to students preferred. Knowledge of federal and state disability support systems, Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. The scope of responsibilities for this position includes the making or participating in the making of decisions that may have a material financial benefit on the incumbent. Therefore, you will be required to file an initial Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interests within thirty (30) days from date of hire and on an annual basis; and complete the CSU sponsored ethics on-line training within thirty (30) days of appointment, and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment.
