COMPENSATION Annual salary is based on a 173-day contract with a minimum of $55,354.06; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience. New hires cannot be placed above $59,353.19 unless exceptional circumstances prevail. This position is covered under the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union; the individual in this position must become a member of the Association, or pay a representation fee to the Association, within 30 calendar days after date of hire.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM In Fall 2016, Bellevue College received accreditation from the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Our first full class of first-year students will be admitted to the degree in Fall 2017. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL DUTIES
This position performs responsibilities under the general direction of the Vice President of Instruction and the Dean of Science. A tenure-track faculty in Computer Science program is given the opportunity to teach a broad range of courses and assists in refining the inaugural curriculum. This individual teaches courses that may include, but not limited to: Fundamentals of Computer Science, Data Structures, Programming Languages, Algorithms, Architecture and Organization, Computer Networks, Software Engineering and Design, and related undergraduate-level courses. Additional responsibilities may include:
providing culturally-responsible advising to students in academic and career pathway planning, such as navigating obstacles that underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations may experience in college (e.g. students with disabilities, students of color, first generation college students, LBGTQia students, Veterans, 2nd language learners, etc.)
curriculum and course development appropriate for a multi-cultural multi-ability student population
supervision of senior capstone design projects
maintaining current knowledge and practical skills in cultural versatility, education, and Computer Science
institutional work, such as the college-wide effort to dismantle barriers that can impact underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations
other reasonable duties and functions may be assigned as needed
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success through equitable teaching and learning excellence; a vision for creating a progressive Computer Science program that supports industry needs; and an aptitude for building inclusive relationships within the BC community and the community at large.
PhD or Master's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field
2 years of relevant teaching/training/work experience
Prior experience that shows working effectively and productively in a collaborative and diverse environment
Relevant industry work experience in a Computer Science field
Experience designing curriculum and managing enrollments
Experience with ABET accreditation
Experience creating various assessment tools (e.g. exams, programming projects or presentations)
Ability to build supportive relationships with students and staff from varied ethnicity, age, background, learning style and ability, and a commitment to culturally-diverse environment
Experience in integrating diversity, pluralism, and inclusion into teaching and learning
Experience addressing disproportionate impact and equity issues in higher education or other environments
Knowledge of programmatic budget development and management
Effective oral and written communication skills
Prior experience that shows ability to teach individuals with widely varying technical skills and learning styles
Ability to implement rigorous professional development in Computer Science curriculum
Ability and willingness to adapt to changing schedule demands
