Our College of Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Director, Industry Capstone Program.
The University of Washington College of Engineering is launching the Industry Capstone Program. We seek a dynamic individual to help establish this program, with the skills to build partnerships with companies, secure capstone funding commitments, support the vision of faculty leaders, and provide a transformational experience for student participants. This individual will be expert in fostering collaboration and will connect the College and its 10 academic departments with companies motivated to partner on engineering projects.
The Industry Capstone Program prepares engineers with the multidisciplinary skills to lead enterprises in industry, government and the nonprofit sector. As the culminating project in a student's education, the Industry Capstone Program requires student teams to integrate and apply their technical coursework to a real-world engineering problem supplied by an industry sponsor, with project involvement from an industry-based mentor.
The Director will operate under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Senior Development Officer of Corporate & Foundation Relations. As staff leader of the College of Engineering's Industry Capstone Program, the Director is responsible for all aspects of the Capstone experience for students, faculty, and industry partners, including scaling up the Capstone program as student, academic department and industry participation grows. The Director will partner with multiple organizations, including: the Dean's office, Academic Affairs, academic department chairs, faculty and staff, Corporate & Foundation Relations, Career Center @ Engineering, as well as other outward-facing UW units. The Director formulates program strategies and goals; plans, directs and controls program budget and other related resources. The Director will support academic departments via an appointed faculty leader, primarily by building connections with potential industry sponsors. Though the program is operating at a pilot scale initially, the vision is to provide Industry Capstone Programs for all interested engineering students, establish an onramp for company partnerships, and ultimately yield a self-sustaining, multi-faceted program.
