The School of Public Health (SPH) is a large and complex professional school on the Berkeley campus. The mission of the School is to develop, adapt and apply diverse disciplines for the promotion and protection of the health of the human population. The School carries out this mission with programs of teaching, research, and service. The academic structure of the School of Public Health consists of a single department (Department of Public Health) and six divisions: BioStatistics, Community Health and Human Department, Environmental Health Science, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management and Infectious diseases and Vaccinology) in which, faculty, students, and staffs are clustered in order to pursue organized study of areas of concentration and specialty fields.
The Digital Communications Specialist will support work within the School of Public Health's External Relations team, a unit responsible for fundraising and development, internal and external communications, events planning, alumni relations, and strategic planning for the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. This position will work within the communications team and will be responsible for promoting the School through digital communications to external audiences, particularly prospective students but also alumni, donors, and the general public. This will be accomplished through a combination of web, multimedia, and digital marketing strategies. This position will also be responsible for training content managers and managing the School's employee intranet.
Produces design and layout for a variety of web site applications.
Meets and consults with clients on a variety of digital communications and marketing projects including moderately complex assignments, and develops, presents, and recommends web content and visual material.
Help manage and execute web, SEO/SEM, email, and social media, and other digital marketing campaigns.
Uses metrics and analytics to determine the efficacy of web content and provides suggestions for continual quality improvement in order to meet goals.
Develop training tools and provide training for content managers who may have varying levels of ability working with web sites. Maintain and improve website documentation.
Provide website assessment and best practices to various clients within the School.
Accountable for ensuring technical accuracy of website content.
Maintains currency with emerging and state-of-the-art technical and other web-related equipment, requirements and developments (for example, accessibility issues) and recommends and as directed, takes action to ensure compliance.
Maintain School's digital assets, including photos, graphics, and videos.
Demonstrated ability to manage moderately complex web and digital marketing projects involving multiple stakeholders.
Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, editorial style, and punctuation, including ability to write in a clear and lively style.
Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
Thorough knowledge of content management systemsparticularly Drupal and Wordpressand other relevant web applications used for web site production, and campus-specific computer application programs.
Thorough skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the campus message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
Thorough knowledge of current digital marketing best practices, including SEO, PPC, inbound marketing, email marketing, and social media campaigns.
Familiarity with most social media channels and best practices.
Thorough understanding of institutional processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web and digital marketing communications.
Highly developed technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and/or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to develop and implement original ideas in order to identify and effectively solve problems.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
