| Pediatric Intensivist (PICU) Full-time |
Goryeb Children’s Hospital, Morristown, NJ
Atlantic Health System
Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown, NJ, is looking for a fifth Pediatric Intensivist to join our award-winning critical care team. This is primarily a clinical position, with 10-15 weeks per year of daytime clinical work in the PICU, and night calls (current average 1 in 5) spread through the rest of the time. Although current calls are not in house, the style is of high-intensity coverage, with Intensivists frequently at the bedside at nights. With future expansion of the PICU beds and with more Intensivists, the unit will transition to a 24/7 in-house coverage in the near/midterm.
The ideal candidate will have an additional career focus to develop (e.g. quality, education, palliative care, simulation, etc.), be committed to teaching: The hospital has an independent pediatric residency program, with 12 residents per year and be responsible for teaching Emergency Medicine residents, Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellows, and medical students. The Goryeb PICU and the Pediatric Emergency Department both have their own advanced pediatric simulators, working together to provide high-fidelity scenarios for teaching and training. We pride ourselves on a philosophy of care that is family-centered and evidence-based. Goryeb Children’s Hospital is a tertiary center with referrals from all Northern New Jersey. The hospital is a Trauma Center, Magnet Hospital, and a Fortune 500 Best Places to Work. The Goryeb PICU has received the Beacon Award for two consecutive times, and our children’s hospital is the pediatric flagship for Atlantic Health, a network of 5 hospitals in Northern New Jersey. Although the hospital does not currently have cardiac surgery or ECMO, it is a very busy, high-acuity unit, with access to most pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties, with an active pediatric neurosurgical program, and with access to all the technology expected in a modern PICU (HFOV, nitric oxide, cardiac output monitoring, CVVH, etc.). The 9-bed unit, expandable to 12 beds, will be replaced by a 15-bed unit by the end of 2018/start of 2019. We benchmark our outcomes with the VPS network and pride ourselves on excellent results.
Both our PICU and the Children’s Hospital are in the middle of a reengineering process to optimize competitive compensation packages, working conditions, staffing, structures and processes, with the objective of becoming the premier pediatric center in our area. As a result of the impressive growth in the past years, we are expecting to further increase our PICU team with more intensivists and allied health personnel in the future.
