We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a FGP Clin Lab Tech (35).
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for performing laboratory procedures and examinations pursuant to established and approved protocols of the CYTOPATHOLOGY Laboratory, including maintaining equipment and records, and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance, and which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility. Performs tests, which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, and with minimal supervision by the director, and cytopathologists, in only those specialties or subspecialties in which they are qualified by education, training and experience. With respect to specialties in which the technologist is not qualified by education, training or experience, he shall function only under the direct supervision of the laboratory director, and assistant director, perform only tests which require limited technical skill and responsibility. Expertise in procedures and protocols of specimen preparation for cytohistological examination and performs routine and special stains; helps in quality control and quality assurance.
- Helps director/assistant director in monitoring quality controls and quality assurance.
- Slide cover slipping, labeling and filing
- Places orders for cytospins, thinpreps and cell blocks and tracks to completion including transport to and from Tisch Cytopathology and Histology laboratories
- Reconciles cytology specimens to ensure proper testing is performed. Verifies that specimens are correctly labeled with 2 identifiers
- Expertise in procedures and protocols of cythistologic specimen preparation. Perform procedures with minimal supervision
To qualify you must have a License/Certification: NYSOP Licensed as a Certified Histotechnician, Histotechnologist, Clinical Lab Technician, or Clinical Lab Technologist. ASCP certification as an HT or HTL. Education: An Associate's Degree from a relevant course of study as defined by NYS clinical laboratory licensing requirements. A high school degree will only be accepted if the individual has the designated experience defined by NYS and has obtained their NYS license through the grand parenting pathway defined by NYS. Experience: Experience required is 6 months - 1 year in a surgical pathology laboratory. Other Experience: Exposure to Computer systems. Good communication skills.
Required Licenses: Certified Histo Technician-NYS, Clinical Lab Technician-NYS, Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS
Must hold licensure granted by the New York State Department of Education as a clinical laboratory technologist; ASCPHT/HTL certification is not required but is preferred
