This is a full-time faculty, tenure track position at the Bates downtown campus in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and instructor. The primary responsibility in this position is academic fieldwork coordination. The individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining adequate fieldwork sites for students, coordinating level I and level II fieldwork and monitoring student progress in the fieldwork courses.
The individual is responsible for providing didactic instruction to OTA program students with a primary role in teaching fieldwork seminar courses each quarter.
Maintain and coordinate an appropriate number of clinical fieldwork sites to meet the needs of the students in the OTA program and ensure compliance with fieldwork education requirements as stated by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) Standards.
Identify and develop new sites for fieldwork education as needed that provide the best match with the program’s mission and philosophy and opportunities for the application of concepts presented in the classroom.
Maintain fieldwork site contracts and databases for reports on accreditation, college and state information and reports to advisory boards. Maintain a file of information on each fieldwork site.
Assure that written contract and letters of agreement between Bates Technical College and the Fieldwork Facility are signed and periodically reviewed.
Maintain and revise as needed fieldwork objectives in collaboration with the fieldwork supervisors and academic faculty.
Make routine site visits to ensure fieldwork supervisors are qualified, facility is able to provide adequate and appropriate level of supervision, site meets fieldwork requirements and monitor the student process.
Provide ongoing training and support for fieldwork supervisors which include setting up goals and objectives and fieldwork supervision workshop training.
Maintain good communication with established fieldwork sites and with the fieldwork supervisors regarding progress and evaluation of students.
Provide fieldwork orientation and training of students regarding course objectives, clinical requirements, and professional expectations.
Assign all eligible students to level I and level II fieldwork and provide the necessary support to the student and/or fieldwork supervisor when issues arise during fieldwork with students.
Mentor, encourage, counsel and guide students toward the completion of program requirements and professional behaviors.
Monitor the compliance of student requirements and provide documentation to fieldwork sites of student requirements- immunizations, TB testing, clinical liability, personal health insurance, criminal background check, HIV/HIPPA/first aid/CPR training.
Review fieldwork evaluations of students and submit grade to registrar’s office.
Maintain student fieldwork records.
Develop and update the clinical fieldwork manual for students.
Teach assigned OTA courses to students enrolled in program with primary responsibilities being fieldwork seminars, clinical competency, and workplace behaviors.
Coordinate the delivery of instruction to OTA students with the other program faculty and ensure that instructional design and delivery supports the approved performance objectives for the program and is consistent with current industry standards and meets the compliance with education requirements as stated by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) Standards.
Update course curriculum as needed, including performance objectives, competencies, lesson plans and content in accordance with accreditation and college standards.
Monitor student outcomes with other program faculty and adjust course content to facilitate student success.
Manage the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies.
Assist with establishing, implementing, and analyzing student learning data to make program and curricular improvements as needed.
Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and/or ensure students are prepared for and have the opportunity to obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students, and maintain student job placement records.
Participate actively and collaboratively in student recruitment.
