Key objectives of CUCE-NYC's research and outreach programs include creating strong secure food systems and promoting healthy human development.
CUCE is searching for a Community Educator who will work as a member of the Nutrition and Health Program staff. This position will assist in planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating nutrition & health education programs & initiatives for adults and youth in targeted communities in the NYC metropolitan area (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx). This position will recruit program participants; teach relevant food, nutrition, budgeting, food safety modules and facilitate skill development of participants. Maintain a caseload expectation related to defined position requirements. Recruit and support volunteers; document program activities and record outcomes. Participate in ongoing in-service education and staff meetings in NYC, Ithaca and other locations as required. Required to work some evenings, weekends and afternoons. This position is full-time (35 hours per week), however there may be some flexibility with the hours.
This is a term position through 9/30/2017 with the possibility of extension.
Formal training beyond HS of 6 months-1 year with a minimum of 6 month's work experience or equivalent combination. Ability to teach in an informal setting, communicate effectively with a diverse audience. Ability to work well as a team member. Ability to travel throughout NYC and work out-of-doors in a variety of weather conditions. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Basic computer skills. Must be bilingual in English and/or Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, or Bengali.
Successful completion of CUCE-NYC Nutrition & Health program series
Associates degree in nutrition preferred.
