The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director in the Office of Multicultural Student Life (MSL). This is an exempt, 12 month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.

The Division of Student Life is comprised of over 400 staff that serve our students through 19 departments and functions. Staff are actively engaged in the lives of our students, living and learning with them in our residence halls, student union, and other campus environments. Reporting to the Office of Multicultural Student Life/Dean of Students Office, the Assistant Director is responsible for programmatic efforts related to the first-year student experience. This position will work closely with multiple student organizations and coordinate programs and services that positively impact first-year student engagement, retention, and success.
The Assistant Director will directly oversee several first-year student programs such as, but not limited to the first-year peer mentoring program and living-learning community. This position will develop initiatives geared towards the retention and graduation of students of color. In addition, the Assistant Director will have the opportunity to teach a first-year experience and/or peer mentoring course, as well as, coordinate departmental outreach events such as university admission visitation events and other departmental requests. The Assistant Director will serve as a resource for students, the Office of Multicultural Student Life, and assist with Division of Student Life events, programs and committees. The Assistant Director will also serve the University of Tennessee on various committees and off campus by participation in other professional associations.
