The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director in the Office of Multicultural Student Life (MSL). This is an exempt, 12 month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.

The Division of Student Life is comprised of over 400 staff that serve our students through 19 departments and functions. Staff are actively engaged in the lives of our students, living and learning with them in our residence halls, student union, and other campus environments. Reporting to the Office of Multicultural Student Life/Dean of Students Office, the Associate Director is responsible for appropriately supporting the vision and mission of the University, Division of Student Life, and MSL. This position will positively contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of MSL programs and services. The Associate Director will supervise full-time staff, oversee multiple budgets, and be responsible for assessment reporting and assisting the Director with strategic planning development and implementation. The nature of the work requires an understanding that specific duties and roles may evolve and change as needs arise. The Associate Director is the individual who provides leadership for meeting the needs of the department in the absence of the Director.
This position will provide appropriate leadership and support in order to support the success of departmental programs and partnerships. The Associate Director will supervise three full-time professional staff members, two graduate research assistants, and will be accountable for providing quality deliverables to support effective teamwork and hold their supervisees accountable for their work. The Associate Director will oversee research and assessment initiatives and will provide feedback and make recommendations to the Director as appropriate. This position will also provide assistance/referral for students who are academically at risk, as well as, support for students who are struggling with nonacademic aspects of their university experience. In addition, the Associate Director will develop initiatives geared towards supporting and expanding the department's diversity and multicultural education curriculum. The Associate Director will serve as a resource for students, the Office of Multicultural Student Life, and assist with Division of Student Life events, programs and committees. The Associate Director will also serve the University of Tennessee on various committees and off campus by participation in other professional associations.
