The Student Success Center at Virginia Tech is pleased to announce its search for a Director. The Student Success Center is a department of the Division of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs, and reports to the Assistant Provost of Student Success Initiatives.
We seek a candidate who is able to lead change and innovation in a complex environment, support the development of professional staff, undergraduate and graduate students, collaborate across colleges and departments, and contribute to the overall goals and objectives of the unit.
The Director for The Student Success Center (SSC) is a 12-month administrative and professional faculty member providing leadership, strategic planning, assessment and continuous improvement for key academic support and enrichment programs at Virginia Tech. The Director will have responsibility for the oversight of the daily operations, budget, and staff to include an associate director, assistant directors (2), receptionist and graduate assistants.
The Director will work closely with the Assistant Provost for Student Success Initiatives in identifying and addressing short and long-term goals of the university and students, and lead efforts in the design, implementation, assessment, and evaluation of academic support and enrichment programs and services.
The position involves a broad range of administrative activities that include working directly with students and faculty; developing strong partnerships with academic units on campus and will serve as the primary contact for the Student Success Center.
Specific duties associated with this position: Hire, supervise and evaluate professional program staff and graduate assistants
Assist in the development, implementation and oversight of academic support, retention and enrichment programs i.e. Black Male Excellence Network, and Academic Recovery Program support
Assist in planning and development of university-wide diversity initiatives
Administration and support for the Presidential Campus Enrichment Grant and Presidential Scholarship Initiative
Coordination of UNIV 1004 College Success Strategies, Academic Coaching, Academic Skills Workshops, and Tutoring Services
Serve on campus committees and task forces related to the mission of the SSC
Serve as a liaison to University Scholarships and Financial Aid
May involve some evening and weekend hours
Required Qualifications:Master's degree
Administrative experience in a higher education setting
Demonstrated effectiveness in managing academic student success programs and services
Demonstrated experience with assessment and continuous improvement
Demonstrated commitment to and sophisticated understanding of issues affecting the academic achievement and retention of students from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to lead change and innovation in a complex environment
Demonstrated expertise in working effectively with different on and off campus constituent groups
Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:Ph.D. in Higher Education, Administration or related field
Working knowledge of student development and educational learning theories
