CSS is a private not-for-profit social/human services agency that initiates, provides and promotes services for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families, within their communities, in order to strengthen their independence, self-esteem and ability to participate in and contribute to community life.
CSS is seeking a dynamic bilingual (English/Spanish)individual with organizational skills to join our vocational services team as an Full-time Employment Specialist working with clients located on the South Side of Chicago.
Locate employment in the community for assigned clients.
Advocates, explain, and protect the individuals’ rights and services.
Responsible for all service functions including assessment, planning, coordination and delivery.
Makes presentations at local job fairs, vocational network meetings and various Chambers of Commerce.
Provides potential employers with necessary information and make presentations on behalf on individuals as needed.
Assures that the services specified in the employment plan are being provided.
Responsible for providing or helping individuals to access the services specified in their plans.
Monitors and documents individual’s progress in relation to the employment plan.
Assist clients to develop natural supports in the community within their workplace including coworkers and Supervisors.
Provides support in gaining access to vocational training, educational and legal services and employment opportunities.
In applicable provides supportive counseling and problem-solving assistance on an ongoing basis and at times of crisis.
Provides informational, educational, and advocacy services to programs and family members.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Previous job placement experience.
Position requires the employee to have access to a motor vehicle, to have a valid driver’s license, to provide a current certificate of automobile insurance, and to transport individuals as needed.
The position requires the ability to work a flexible work week including some evenings and weekends.
Must be self-directed and organized and have the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
Must have computer skills including Microsoft Office including Excel, and the ability to learn CSS’ internal computerized documentation data base. Ability to retrieve reports and fully utilize the database system.
