UW Medicine Pathology provides clinical services in all areas of pathology, providing diagnostic procedures and analysis for more than 80,000 cases a year. We provide comprehensive diagnostic and personalized consultative services to physicians, community hospitals, independent laboratories and other health-care organizations, by combining sophisticated testing and informatics capabilities of fully accredited laboratories with the resources of an academic and teaching institution in its delivery of pathology services.
Our operations are based at the UW School of Medicine, UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Pathology faculty members also serve at Seattle Children's, VA Puget Sound Health System, Northwest Hospital and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Our Anatomic Pathology Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Full Time Anatomic Pathology Technologist, 2nd Shift (Evenings). This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technologist to perform complex procedures for services such as histology, gross room, flow cytometry, electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and autopsy.
Under the general supervision of the Histology Supervisor, the licensed Histology technician will perform histotechnology procedures such as processing, embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation and diagnosis by Pathologists; perform immunohistochemistry; perform specialized procedures in renal histopathology; perform special stains via automated stainer and or manual staining; prepare laboratory solutions as needed in procedures; assist in Fine Needle Aspiration collection; use care and maintain histology instruments; perform quality control and quality assurance; perform research and assist in development of new procedures. Independently monitors reagent use and prepares appropriate volumes needed, records daily instrument temperatures and performs preventative maintenance on instruments according to prescribed protocols. Successfully navigates the network computer to accession clinical and research cases, order lab tests, review work lists and provide case status to inquiring pathologists and clinicians. May perform procedures in various services of anatomic pathology such as Electron Microscopy and gross room.
| A Bachelor's Degree with coursework in chemistry, biology and other biological sciences including microscopy AND certification, or certified within two years of date of hire, at the Technologist level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of America AND one year of clinical anatomic laboratory experience |
| HT or HTL certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) |
Experience or familiarity with Power-Path, Power-Trax and Omni-Trax system preferred.
Experience with scanning and barcoding system preferred.
Able to work in rotating or variable shifts a plus.
