The selected candidate will work with the Records and Archives Management team to describe and make accessible digital photography documenting projects and activities of the DEP. Tasks include research to identify image content, metadata creation, and quality control. Other responsibilities may include developing reference resources, conducting research in support of user requests, and creating social media content. The ideal candidate for this position is familiar with New York City and State geography and infrastructure, has excellent writing skills, and can describe images quickly and accurately.
Preferred Skills: Interest in government records or engineering. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational and planning skills, detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to work well following a written project plan with minimal supervision, and capable of identifying and communicating project issues as they arise. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Excel. Previous experience working with a digital asset management system and applying metadata highly desirable.
Qualifications: Interns must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the graduate level pursuing a degree in information and library science, archival studies, history, or related field, and must have at least a 2.5 GPA.
Compensation and Duration: Intern will be paid $15.30 an hour. The position requires a full-time commitment (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm) for the duration of the internship: 10 weeks from June 5 through August 11, 2017. Employment may potentially be extended after this period on a part-time basis.
Work Location: The Archives is located on the east side of midtown Manhattan.
