We are looking for a seasoned risk management professional to work with the Company's Senior Leadership team on risk related issues. Our current VP of Risk Management is retiring and we want to bring on a professional who will continue to maintain the high standards related to coverage and risk. Our offices are in the New York City area although we would anticipate approximately 50 days of overnight travel to our locations. This position requires a dynamic risk professional familiar with global insurance operations for a diverse grouping of companies.
We have a functioning ERM program that is based on ISO standards. You need to have familiarity with these programs including the preparation of risk registers and risk mitigation plans.
We have a diverse global portfolio of insurance that is complex requiring a solid technical lead to work with. We have several insurance broker relationships around the world. We manage these relationships aggressively yielding a very competitive cost of risk and policy terms. The position reports directly to the Corporate CFO with a dotted reporting line to our Global COO.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Managing a team of seven (7) to nine (9) employees including claims and risk analysts.
Overseeing all insurance coverage renewals.
Review policy wording and manage multiple business/broker relationships
Align risk management strategies and processes with the company’s business strategy
Integrating all risk and control functions, policies and committee structures
Supporting business growth and profitability through capital allocation and pricing models
Developing enterprise-level risk measurements, analytical and reporting processes
Enforcing risk policies and limits, and executing risk transfer strategies
Coordinate with HSE and management on any work related to injury claims. Provide guidance and direction to claim professionals handling claims from inception to resolution, including coverage, investigation, evaluation and resolution.
Evaluate complex coverage and review insurer coverage position letters
Conduct focused and general audits of WC claims handling practices (file audits)
Provide strong customer service to our clients, brokers, underwriting staff and other business partners
10+ years of experience in a role similar to the one described above
Exposure to complex multi-state workers’ compensation experience; preferred candidates will have liability experience, with current working knowledge of jurisdictional laws and regulations, and extensive coverage evaluation skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required - you need to have a track record of presenting to the Board on risk related issues including ERM including preparation of quarterly reports to your direct report
Ability to motivate others and demonstrate leadership skills
Overnight travel required to participate in management meetings and audits
Bachelor’s degree is required; postgraduate education (MBA or JD) preferred designations:
Strong analytical capability using financial software (Excel/Access)
Previous experience working with complex insurance and self-insurance programs and providing consultative solutions
Solid interpersonal and relationship-building skills
