The mission of the Dean of Students (DOS) Office is to serve as a resource for helping students resolve university-related issues and concerns and advance to degree. The Student Services Professional III performs complex student services professional work characterized by independent student advisement and guidance in individual and group settings. This level is further characterized by assignments requiring the application of a high degree judgement, or persuasiveness, imagination and professional skills and knowledge in a specified program or service areas, as well as a general understanding of the interrelationships and the need for coordinated action within the total program.
Under general supervision of the Assistant Dean and Director of the Cross Cultural Centers. The Lead Coordinator of the Pride Center is responsible for the day to day operations of the programs and services related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and pansexual communities under the umbrella of the Cross Cultural Centers. The Lead Coordinator will promote inclusion of members from the LGBTQIAP communities throughout campus life, through collaborative partnerships. The Lead Coordinator of the Pride Center will play an integral part of a team by contributing to the overall vision of the Cross Cultural Centers and Dean of Students. The Lead Coordinator is responsible for the design of events and/or services that focus on the identity, culture, retention, and concerns of the students and intersectional student identities affiliated with the Pride Center. The Lead Coordinator of the Pride Center will work collaboratively with the Cross Cultural Center's Team in implementing strategies to support and educate University students, faculty and staff about the lives, culture and concerns of various groups within their particular program area/s.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree and five years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; OR a Master's degree and four years of experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, DEGREES, CREDENTIALS: Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated experience addressing the needs of individuals from LGBTQIAP communities
General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management as well as research and interview techniques
Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action
General knowledge of research and theories that inform understandings of identity formation and development of LGBTQIAP communities
Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior
Ability to plan, schedule and develop curriculum for educational presentations to on-campus constituents regarding cross cultural programs, gender, sexuality, allyship
General knowledge of individual counseling techniques
Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex and sensitive matters where required
Ability to recognize multi-cultural, multi-sexed, and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly
Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action
Ability to determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature
Demonstrated ability to make decisions and maintain a high degree of confidentiality
Understanding of the practical application of facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution
Must possess solid conflict resolution skills; ability to apply appropriate action or techniques while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature
Ability to understand, interpret, communicate and respond to complex and sensitive issues involving student conduct
Demonstrated ability to quickly and effectively assess needs and intervene in student behavior and crisis situations.
Ability to present information and speak publicly to large groups
Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing
Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation
Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email
Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures
Master's degree and two years of experience in higher education, student development profession or with a community non-profit or social services agency highly preferred
Direct experience with LGBTQIAP student populations, knowledge of culture and needs of diverse identity groups, and the intersectionality of diverse communities
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude
Ability to facilitate trainings in person, as well as online or other virtual environments
Experience overseeing initiatives that are student-led

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional student recruitment and professional development
Must be able to work additional hours, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment
This position classification has been defined as "Exempt" and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
