Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Development will be responsible for crafting the overall strategic direction for Development, providing strong leadership for donor development initiatives, managing a team of results-oriented staff and being a careful steward of donors and their contributions. S/he must deliver a donor program that provides both new and existing donors with an exceptional experience with the organization that earns their loyalty and personal advocacy.
We’re looking for an individual who has the personality and skills to strengthen relationships with existing donors, and an innovative nature to reach out in new and compelling ways to develop new donor funding streams. S/he will work closely with the Vice President of Marketing & Engagement and the rest of the leadership team to create the strategy and tactics needed to elevate the Children International brand among various funding sources.
Serving as the chief development officer, the Vice President of Development will lead and oversee all fundraising activities, particularly within the foundation community, corporate giving sources, individuals with a significant capacity to make a difference and other untapped areas.
Relocation is not required. A commuter or remote work situation will be considered for the right candidate.
An undergraduate degree is required, with an advanced degree preferred.
A minimum of 10+ years of experience in development, including a proven track record in transforming an organization’s outcomes.
Experience researching, identifying, nurturing and engaging external partners that align with the organization’s objectives is necessary. A broad-based development background encompassing public, foundation and corporate grants; major gifts; planned giving; and annual funds from global/national sources is important.
Must possess a demonstrated record of personal success in raising significant gifts (i.e., successful six/seven-figure asks) from individuals, businesses, foundations, corporations and/or the public sector.
Experience leveraging fundraising databases and support systems for donor segmentation, research and targeted acquisition is required.
A strong understanding of internet and social media and how to leverage other technologies to connect with constituents and develop new funding streams would distinguish highly qualified candidates.
Leadership background should include proven ability to manage, motivate and empower a diverse internal team and external consultants, and in coordinating and supporting the fundraising activities of others.
Given the nature of the position, it will be helpful for candidates to have had international travel experience and exposure to developing countries. Bilingual in Spanish/English would be helpful.
