The Northwest Genomics Center has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Project Coordinator to help manage complex, multi-collaborator projects with project and client investigators. The Research Coordinator facilitates inter-institution and inter-departmental arrangements and agreements, attends to scientific needs and completes administrative tasks required to insure project success, with help as needed from a Senior Research Coordinator.
POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY:
The Nickerson laboratory has been, and continues to be, tremendously successful in obtaining grant and contract funding and accomplishing ground-breaking genomics research. The Research Coordinator position is key to the planning, operations and administration of the Nickerson laboratory and, thereby, its ongoing success. Errors by the Research Coordinator could result in non-compliance with NIH, State of Washington or UW regulations, financial penalties, termination of projects and loss of funding opportunities.
Working with two senior Research Coordinators, interact with collaborators, client investigators and multiple UW departments (e.g., Office of Sponsored Programs, Human Subjects Division, UW Center for Commercialization, Grant and Contract Accounting) to ensure timely and correct implementation, administration, progress and completion of research projects.
Take action to correct problems (e.g., missing or incorrectly formatted output data) to complete research objectives.
Working with two senior Research Coordinators, design, create and revise systems and procedures as necessary to ensure quality, efficiency and effectiveness of laboratory operations.
Assist senior Research Coordinators to support activities of laboratory staff on and between research projects as necessary.
Develop and Maintain Lab Websites
Design and implement websites to support and facilitate completion of project goals and maximize operational consistency across research projects.
Update, maintain and troubleshoot project and lab websites.
Develop Standard SOPs for key administrative functions
Learn and Develop best practices for Laboratory Management Functions Including:
-Submitting Data to dbGaP
Assist with Travel Arrangements and Reimbursements
Collect and submit necessary documentation for Travel requests and reimbursement requests.
| Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemical or Biological Engineering, Life Sciences or related field and 2+ years experience in scientific research or project management. |
Excellent writing and editing skills to include demonstrated ability to edit scientific materials.
Stong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage relationships and interact with senior level researchers.
Web development and administration experience.
Excellent work ethic and strong organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to independently set priorities and effectively handle constant interruptions.
Ability, when necessary, to work under pressure and remain focused.

|CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:|
| The Research Coordinator must be able to work varied and extra hours as needed to meet project deadlines and program needs. The person in this role will have daily interactions with team members, subject matter experts, stakeholders at all levels of the UW, other institutions and funding agencies. The Research Coordinator may need to travel occasionally in the evening and/or on the weekend to study meetings. |
