Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow position open in the laboratory of Dr. Alfredo Kirkwood at the Johns Hopkins University. The candidate will join a team of several labs devoted to understand understand age-related functional changes in the dentate gyrus during aging. This multidisciplinary effort employs multiple levels of analysis from multi-unit recordings in behaving individuals to changes in gene expression and it if fully funded through a program project. The research at the Kirkwood lab combines whole cell electrophysiology with optogenetics to study how aging affects the synaptic circuitry as well as the integration of new-born cells. Special considerations are given to applicants with training in whole-cell electrophysiology in brain slices and a strong quantitative background.
