Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Executive Director, Disability Services (DS), the Assistant Director for Campus Access and Accommodations has campus-wide responsibilities and requires expertise in federal, state and local disability laws. The Assistant Director for Campus Access and Accommodations identifies needs, develops long-range plans and initiatives, provides strategic planning and advice, and recommends new policies, procedures and practices in the areas of: disability access and accommodations; maps and way finding; access and accommodations for students, staff and faculty attending campus events; access and accommodations for guests, visitors, alumni and other members of the public attending campus events; University-sponsored off-campus programs and activities; and housing accommodations for students with disabilities. The Assistant Director for Campus Access and Accommodations will work closely with other offices, including the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action (ADA and Section 504 Compliance Office), the Office of the General Counsel, Facilities, Public Safety, the Libraries, and the Registrar and other venue-scheduling offices.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of 4-6 years relevant working experience including experience working with individuals from cross-disability backgrounds on accommodations in diverse settings required; experience with physical and technological access issues strongly preferred. Experience with the application and interpretation of Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Acts, and other federal, state and local laws and regulations governing disabilities. Knowledge of ADAAG and other technical requirements relating to disability access, including state and local laws. Must possess strong counseling, negotiating and communication (oral and written) skills as well as superior administrative and organizational abilities. Must be able to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and tact, set priorities and work both independently and collaboratively. Flexibility in scheduling (including some evening and weekend hours).
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Advanced degree in relevant field preferred.
