CLASSE OPERATES WORLD CLASS FACILITIES AND CARRIES OUT RESEARCH DRIVEN BY CORNELL FACULTY IN THE FIELDS OF BEAM PHYSICS, PHOTON SCIENCE, PARTICLE AND ASTROPHYSICS IN ORDER TO EXPAND SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATE STUDENTS AND INSPIRE THE PUBLIC.
The Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator based ScienceS and Education (CLASSE) has an immediate opening for an Electronics Technician (Equipment Technician IV) to design, fabricate, and maintain electronic circuits. Construction techniques utilize point-to-point wiring, pc board population and soldering, and control wiring within chasses and racks. Construct and package electronic systems including mechanical chassis layout and cable harness construction. Install and maintain electronic systems. Perform analog and digital circuit troubleshooting and repair using oscilloscopes, dvms, power supplies, and other electronic test equipment. This work includes component level troubleshooting for internally developed systems as well as commercial equipment. Design work utilizing schematic design software for capture and pcb design software for printed circuit layout. Must have hands on experience in the design and fabrication of electronic hardware. Strong background in analog or high power circuits is desired. Qualifications include an Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, military training or equivalent plus at least two years' experience working as an electronics technician.
Highly motivated individual with formal training beyond a HS diploma and completion of a formal technical electronics training program equivalent to an associate degree, including coursework containing basic electronics with amplifiers, digital logic and AC and DC circuit coursework. At least two years of job-related experience. Must be an adaptable individual as responsibilities range through reading schematics, electronic design, soldering, printed circuit board assembly, cable and chassis construction, and electronic troubleshooting. Strong service attitude requires as this position provides service to many departments within CLASSE. Most work performed in a group environment so a good sense of teamwork is needed.
FPGA programming a plus. Printed circuit board design skills a plus. Electrical CAD schematic capture skills a plus. Advanced design / troubleshooting experience preferred.
