General Description full-time position in Neurology; 37.5 hours per week; Monday - Friday
Responsible for day to day clinic operations in Howard County General Hospital, School of Medicine, Sleep Center including the day-to-day duties of the staff in the Sleep Center.
Under the direction of the Assistant Administrator, proactively assess and implement appropriate processes to ensure that all facets of ambulatory practice management are effectively addressed. This includes patient access, complete and accurate registration, insurance referral and pre-authorization requirements, health information management, patient flow, environmental safety, regulatory compliance, patient safety, quality initiatives, and patient experience. Will work collaboratively with physicians and staff to ensure timely patient access to care, operational efficiency, practice optimization, and fiscal integrity.
Duties and responsibilities relate to patient care and clinic environment. For clinical tasks, will function under direction and guidance of the physician when providing patient care. Report to Assistant Administrator. Responsible for administrative, staff development and orientation of the staff to the office's policies and procedures.
Carry out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision. Make decisions and establish work priorities on essentially procedure-oriented operations. Must be competent in administering medications as directed by a physician. Maintain inventory of clinic supplies and medications, operate in the clinical environment and provide a safe, clean, orderly and comfortable clinic environment. Obtain and record patient's vital signs: temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight and height. Assist patients to exam room and prepare patients for examination and/or diagnostic procedures. Prepare examination or treatment areas before, during and after patient use. Maintain and use principles of aseptic technique and infection control when performing clinical duties and tasks. Operate clinical equipment as directed by a physician. Recognize emergency situations, implement emergency procedures according to clinic guidelines, administer first aid including CPR and maintain emergency equipment and supplies. Direct patients with medical complaints who call or arrive to the clinic to the patient's physician and/or to the emergency room for assistance. Order, stock and maintain exam rooms and clinic areas with standard levels of supplies, medications, linens, nourishments, forms and equipment. May perform related and delegated tasks, which includes requests for prescription refills, taking and relaying messages, directing patient flow and running errands. Provide patient instruction for medication administration, diagnostic tests, specimen collection and methods of health promotion and disease prevention. Obtain and provide health information for patient use as requested by the physician. Ensure that soiled linen, needle containers and potentially infectious waste are appropriately disposed and removed from the clinic and exam area according to the infection control guidelines. Check clinic area and rooms for malfunctioning equipment and general maintenance problems on a regular basis. Report findings to appropriate person or arrange for repairs as required. Participate in skill development and training through in service programs to enhance knowledge level and to ensure mastery of patient care procedures. Offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to ensure that the patient has a positive experience while at Johns Hopkins. Maintain accurate information on each patient to facilitate the patient encounter. Work with others in a team environment.
