The Department of Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN 2 in the UW Medicine Center For Precision Diagnostics. As a member of the team, this individual will coordinate technical activities of the Center's clinical laboratory referral testing service for patients and clients both within the UW Medicine system and from around the world. He/she will work with community clients, as well as with the Center's laboratory staff and faculty to ensure quality laboratory services are delivered to all.
Clinical lab processing responsibilities, including: receiving, sorting prioritizing, and accessioning specimens for the Center, matching specimens against requisitions, accurate data entry of client and specimen information into the PowerPath system and LabMatrix or Core laboratory information management systems, and labeling and identifying specimens. The person also will quantify and log DNA samples; measure the quality of DNA received using a Nano drop spectrophotometer and document concentrations and volumes in a laboratory information management system.
DNA next Gen: Delivers aliquoted DNA to Next Gen Lab and records chain of custody in data base Track and monitor samples using multiple computer systems: Epic, PowerPath, and Lab Matrix; use proper protocol for each tracking data base;Maintain sample testing log, billing information or clinic note requests Coordinate, instruct and develop safety centered standards and best practices
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Advise clients and potential clients of the optimum use of services offered by the Center For Precision Diagnostics.
Respond promptly, courteously and professionally to phone and written inquiries from clients. Follow inquiry logging procedures. Provide supervisor with feedback regarding client needs.
May train/direct new Clinical Laboratory Technician 1 staff.
Appropriately refer clients to additional resources, other laboratories / testing centers.
Function as dispatch for courier service including input for changes or expansion of existing routes. Provides back-up, courier coverage on limited occasions as needed.
Maintain inventory supply; monitor lab reports and prepare supplies and reports for delivery to clients.
Other duties as required.
An Associate Degree from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program including courses in chemistry and biology OR equivalent education/experience.
Additional Departmental Requirements:
Experience working in a laboratory with a prime focus on connective tissue disorders
Experience working in a facility that provides Next Gen sequencing
Proven experience with Core and LabMatrix Laboratory Information Systems
Proven experience with PowerPath
Proven experience managing data in EPIC
Superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to interact with all levels of faculty and staff
Demonstrated excellent customer service ethic
Ability to handle a high volume of calls, prioritizing and working under pressure calmly and efficiently
Demonstrates problem-solving abilities
Ability to work both independently and as a team member
Familiarity with Department Of Pathology operations and procedures
Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database software
Experience using Slack
Understanding of UW Medicine billing pathways
