The Associate Chair and Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) position serves as the key business leader for the Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will partner with the department chair in setting strategic priorities and with Stanford Childrens Health to integrate the operations of the department and its faculty with the goals and initiatives of the overall clinical enterprise. With a total annual budget of $210 million, the department of pediatrics has more than 700 full time faculty and staff, nineteen divisions, robust residency and fellowship programs and sponsored research programs exceeding $56 million. Its clinical care outreach activities extend to eight states.
For the Department of Pediatrics, the Associate Chair/DFA provides leadership and direction for all financial and administrative functions including: budgeting and financial management, strategic planning, human resources, grant and contract administration, academic affairs, facilities/space, compliance, and safety. The Associate Chair/DFA manages department operations, establishes the administration's organizational structure and environment and has oversight for administrative policies and procedures in the department. This individual recruits, develops and directs the following positions: directors of finance and clinical operations, research administration, education, academic affairs & human resources, and the division managers.
In addition to the above department responsibilities, the Associate Chair/DFA will work closely with Stanford Childrens Health and other departments in the School of Medicine to:
Champion Stanford Childrens Health priorities in the pediatrics faculty practices, especially with respect to initiatives in process improvement, patient-centered care, efficient clinic operations, and clinical productivity.
Facilitate the recruitment and on-boarding of new Department of Pediatrics faculty, and promote the professional development of all faculty and staff.
Further the cooperation among the pediatrics faculty clinical practices and the Packard Childrens Health Alliance (PCHA) clinical practices.
Oversee the management and operations of interdisciplinary units as requested. Current center operations overseen by the department include the Stanford Childrens Health Research Institute (CHRI) and the Laboratory for Cell and Gene Medicine (LCGM).
The Associate Chair/DFAs primary reporting relationship is to the Chair of Pediatrics with a secondary reporting relationship to the Senior Associate Dean for Finance & Administration in the School of Medicine. The position also partners with the Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Administrative Officer of the Faculty Practice Organization, and the rest of the senior management team of Stanford Childrens Health. The Associate Chair/DFA serves as the liaison to the school and university in all business matters for the department. As the business partner with the chair, this critical leadership position will ensure sound management of the department and work with the chair and faculty leaders on new and existing research, clinical and education programs and initiatives to enable the department to achieve its strategic and operational goals.
Masters Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, or a related field and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional and managerial work, including a minimum of five years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. Prefer experience in an academic medical center.

The successful candidate will most likely come from a large department/division within a well-respected, top-tier academic medical center with exposure to research, clinical and education functions.
He/she will be an accomplished professional, with executive presence, and demonstrated communication and leadership skills, who can cultivate an environment of excellence and collaboration to augment the departments academic, research, clinical, and service endeavors.
