Coder - Inpatient-16007139 Description The Medical Coder is responsible for interpreting clinical documentation and translating that information into a coding classification, in accordance with official coding and reimbursement guidelines. The codes assigned are used to determine reimbursement and improper assignment can lead to legal and monetary penalties against the hospital system. Information entered is used for physician and hospital report cards, State reporting databases, research, patient care and by various governmental agencies. Qualifications Education: Associates Degree Experience or education in a certification program may be considered in lieu of degree. Experience: More than 3 years less than 5 years. Minimum of four years' experience in a hospital or acute care setting. Inpatient and outpatient experience using both ICD and CPT coding. Licensure and Certification: RHIA or RHIT or CCS or CPC Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Computer skills and 10-key typing proficiency. General software skills with MS Office products, including Word and Excel. Strong communication and integrity skills, both verbal and written, in order to interpret medical documents and communicate effectively with medical professionals especially related to compliance guidelines . Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Demonstrates attention to detail for accuracy requirements.
