The Austin office is looking for an intern for the transportation planning group of the State & Local Governments client sector. The transportation planning group conducts studies with a focus on developing innovative solutions to current transportation challenges, within a multi-disciplinary and collaborative work environment. This role will involve working on a variety of tasks related to corridor planning, feasibility studies, and public involvement.
Under the direction of senior staff, the transportation planning intern will:
Â· Conduct background research on planning practices, policies and studies
Â· Collect and analyze data, and develop technical memoranda summarizing the results
Â· Use specialized software packages including ESRI ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and preferably Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or Illustrator
Â· Create, review and edit technical reports and studies
Â· Attend team, consultant and client meetings
Â· Work with people from other disciplines to gain knowledge on new subjects
Â· Proven interest in the fields of transportation engineering and planning
Â· Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in transportation planning, transportation engineering, civil engineering, or related field with expected graduation in 2017 or 2018
Â· Completed coursework in transportation planning, traffic engineering, capacity analysis, and/or transportation modeling
Â· Strong technical and analytical skills with an ability to demonstrate attention to detail
Â· Experience using big data for transportation planning desired
Â· Ability to communicate thoughts and ideas in an accessible way
Â· Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, teamwork, and creativity
Â· Experience in using ESRI ArcGIS required
Â· Experience with one or more of the following desired: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, HCS, TransCAD, SketchUp, Microstation, AutoCAD, or SPSS.
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelorâ??s or Masterâ??s program with an engineering or urban planning emphasis.
- Minimum junior year completed.
- Must have have excellent oral and written communication skills, self-motivation, and team-oriented work practices.
- Possess strong data analysis skills, technical problem solving skills, effective organizational skills, multitasking ability,and excellent computer skills (MS Office).
