Job Description Summary:
Under the direction of the Vice President, Student Services, plan, organize, control and direct the College counseling services; assure the continuous availability of effective counseling services; oversee Student Success program mandates provided by counseling, transfer and testing centers; manage the program review process for counseling and Student Success and Support Program (SSSP); serve as representative of the College and Counseling Department to outside agencies; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

Plan, organize, control and direct College counseling services; assure the continuous availability of effective counseling services, including workshops relating to academic standing, transfers, education planning orientations and athletic advisement.
Oversee Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) mandates provided by the counseling, transfer and testing centers; provide assistance to lead counselors in the areas of orientation, testing, academic standing, education planning, peer mentoring and support programs; review implementation plans.
Manage the program review process for counseling and Student Success and Support (SSSP) programs; evaluate program review cycles and drafts; form counselor and staff teams to complete specific programs; approve Counseling Department program reviews.
Serve as representative of the College and Counseling Department to outside divisions, committees, shared-governance bodies and other outside agencies; attend and participate in International Program orientations, high school conferences and counselor meetings, College Connection orientations and other assigned events.
Manage Personal Development department courses; assign faculty to teach course sections; hire and assign adjuncts; schedule rooms and process loads; approve new courses and course revisions; oversee the update of College catalogs, class schedules and website as required.
Participate in the update and review of processes and deadlines for applications, orientations, waivers, evaluations of degrees and certificates, registration priorities and other functions in relation to counseling and student success.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions.
Provide technical expertise, information and assistance to the Vice President regarding assigned functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs.
Plan, organize and implement long and short-term programs and activities designed to develop assigned programs and services.
Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to personnel and assigned activities.
Communicate with other administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.
Develop and prepare the annual preliminary budget for the Counseling Department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.
Operate a computer and assigned software programs; operate other office equipment as assigned; drive a vehicle to conduct work as assigned.
Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned including Faculty Senate, College Council, or Board meetings and events.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to: master’s degree in counseling or related field and five years increasingly responsible community college counseling experience including two years in a supervisory role.
$111,811 - $142,701 per year
