The University of Michigan is engaged in a major, presidential, strategic planning process to make diversity, equity, and inclusion central to teaching and learning at all levels. As part of this process, CRLT is partnering with the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) to offer professional development for faculty and graduate students who teach courses that fulfill the College’s race and ethnicity requirement. We seek a colleague who will play a central role in developing and carrying out programs to serve this population. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the work of a well-supported center whose mission focuses on equity and inclusion in teaching and learning. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and have experience working with faculty and GSIs around issues of diversity in teaching. Individuals with experience teaching race and ethnicity courses are encouraged to apply. Applicants with extensive experience in faculty professional development will be considered for an assistant director title. Candidates from groups historically underrepresented in faculty development are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have the following core responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing programs to support faculty and GSIs teaching race and ethnicity courses, including seminars, learning communities, and one-on-one consultations.
- Designing and implementing programs and workshops for instructional improvement for U-M more broadly, with a particular emphasis on diversity issues and inclusive teaching
- Contributing to CRLT’s print and online resources, especially on inclusive teaching
Completed Ph.D.; university or college teaching experience; faculty and/or GSI development experience; experience with multicultural or diversity work in higher education; commitment to contemporary issues of diversity, inequalities, social justice, access, and/or differential success in higher education; ability to work effectively with faculty, GSIs, and colleagues of different disciplinary and social backgrounds; strong attention to detail; outstanding communication skills; sensitivity to teaching and learning needs at a large, public research university
Experience teaching courses that focus on race and ethnicity; familiarity with scholarship on inclusive teaching; familiarity with the goals and objectives of CRLT.
