Starting Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000/annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Involves operation of the campus, medical center or Office of the President communications network including telecommunications. Plans, designs, develops, installs and maintains communications network systems for the campus, medical center or Office of the President or a unit.
Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.
This is a permanent senior project manager position with responsibility for highly complex telecommunication infrastructure project in excess of $10 million and smaller capital project as dictated.
This position has primary responsibility for developing and executing the third phase of a ten-year master plan to upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure to support campus instruction, research and administration by working with Physical Planning and Construction (PP&C) and Architectural and Engineering (A/E) consultants to develop and execute capital projects. There will be opportunities to assume responsibility for other capital project phases or tasks during periods of time when the primary projects do not require full time project management and as workload dictates within the ITS Engineering and Construction Management Operation.
The incumbent applies advanced professional communications concepts, industry practices and relevant policies, procedures and objectives to resolve highly complex technical and financial issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Determines methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results.
Core Technologies is responsible for managing consolidated IT systems resources and for providing a secure and stable computing environment for the campus. Core Technologies is comprised of five units which include: Networking, Core Tech Services (business office), Data Center Operations (including systems administration), IT Security, and Engineering and Construction Management (ECM).
The Engineering and Construction Management group is responsible for the UCSC communication-cabling infrastructure and providing the campus with a robust and healthy cable plant. This task is accomplished by conducting the initial review and approval of the communication cabling plans for new buildings and remodels to assure all established cabling standards are in compliance with Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI); quality assurance by monitoring the progress of engineering and construction projects; creating budgetary estimates, resources drawdown schedules and monitoring resources and financial data through the life cycle; acting as Core Technologies' representative to contractors and architects; cable trouble analyzing and repair coordination; final inspection and acceptance testing of installed copper and fiber systems; analysis testing of any copper or fiber needed for special projects; and acting as project manager and liaison for the customer on small cable projects.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Expert project management skills needed to assume responsibility for accomplishment of project objectives.
• Expert communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information in a clear and coherent manner to architects, engineers, ITS professionals, management, contractors, and customers.
• Expert writing skills to write project planning guides, RFPs, RFQs, and scopes of work for procuring equipment and services, writing project reports for status, decisions or value engineering, or to secure capital funds.
• Expert analytical skills to provide financial reports that reflect budget forecasts and resource projections for all managed projects on a monthly basis.
