The University of Missouri musculoskeletal radiology service is based at a free-standing orthopaedic hospital and clinic, the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute (MOI). MOI is home to a large group of subspecialty orthopaedic surgeons providing high-level tertiary care. It is undergoing a $40 million expansion that will increase clinical space for surgical, inpatient and outpatient services. The case-load includes sports medicine, tumor, arthritis, congenital and developmental abnormalities, and spine disease.
The musculoskeletal imaging fellow will achieve proficiency in conventional radiographs, diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, CT and MRI. Numerous interventional musculoskeletal procedures of both the axial and appendicular skeletons are performed including epidural and transforaminal spine injections, arthrograms, and diagnostic and therapeutic joint and tendon sheath injections under ultrasound and fluoroscopy. Fellows rotate through all modalities and have dedicated research time. Fellowship-trained MSK radiologists provide one-on-one supervision and teaching. Regular interdisciplinary conferences are held with the sarcoma, spine, and sports medicine services.
