We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Associate.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. This position assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures.
- Primary Responsibilities include the management of laboratory group mouse colonies, including mouse breeding, organization of genotyping, database entry, assignment of mice to the indicated laboratory projects, and maintaining the mice tissue/blood bank.
- Additional responsibilities and requirements include the ability to plan and execute experiments, experience with in vivo experimentation in mice, and performance of such techniques as real time quantitative PCR, Western blotting, ELISAs, and cell culture maintenance.
- Additional responsibilities include performance of tasks as directed by the Principal Investigator.
- Advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision.
- Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures.
- In addition to those duties expected of an Associate Research Technician, Research Technicians may be expected to coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment and additionally, is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments.
- Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments.
- Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures.
- Maintains and updates technical knowledge.
- Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center.
- Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information.
- Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.
- Is able to recognize problems as they occur and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution.
- Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy.
- Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience.
- Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator).
- Effective oral and written communication skills required.
- Successful candidate will have at least 3 years of related experience, minimum of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree, and have demonstrated ability to work with a research team.
