The Senior Director of Institutional Research reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for organizing and directing the functions of the Office of Institutional Research. The Office responds to internal and external requests for information, assists campus constituents with data needs, and assists with and coordinates campus survey activities. The incumbent serves as the primary custodian of institutional data and performs or leads analyses to support institutional decision-making; is involved in the development and dissemination of institutional research and analytical studies pertaining to academic programs, enrollment management, student success initiatives, administrative organization and staffing, and facilities; leads campus analytic studies and implements business intelligence and data visualization software to position the institution to meet its goals; builds collaborative relationships across campus, particularly with the Division of Information Technology; and performs other duties as assigned.
Required: Terminal degree. Equivalent to five years of extensive and progressively-responsible administrative experience, with direct experience in administrative analysis and research skills. Experience in utilization of computer systems in a variety of administrative and research applications, including research design, statistical analysis, system design, and database management. Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of institutional research, organization and management of a large institution; and of statistical theory and methods, and systems analysis techniques and principles. Demonstrated ability to manage data warehouses and databases, including a strong working knowledge of relevant quantitative software. Demonstrated ability to present technical material clearly and effectively for a variety of audiences and to speak and write effectively. Significant experience working with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Preferred: Doctorate in Statistics, Social Science, Education, Assessment, or closely related field. Strong familiarity with current issues in higher education. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work with tight deadlines. Extensive supervisory experience and ability to organize and direct the functions of the Office of Institutional Research; analyze administrative problems and make appropriate recommendations; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; supervise and train employees; and work cooperatively with others. Experience implementing and using dashboard software (e.g., Tableau) in an institutional research setting.
