What will you be doing?
In short, you'll build your teams and work closely with partners to ensure the successful flow of data throughout the organization and with external entities. Working with leaders in the organization to design systems that work seamlessly will be a major focus for you and your teams. This position is at the heart of data integration with both internal and external networks. Our application environment includes multiple EHR systems, departmental systems, interfaces and clinical data repositories. This position will keep you on your toes!

The Interfaces and Data Integration Manager is responsible for providing direction, management, program development and administration for the UW Medicine's Interface, Data Integration and Interoperability strategy. This includes the strategic and tactical planning, architectural design, capabilities development, implementation, and quality assurance for interfaces, data integration, and interoperability for all critical applications, ancillary systems, and other applications. This position will supervise architects, business analysts, developers, software engineers, and third-party consultants (when they are assigned to the Interfaces and Data Integration team), as well as work with a number of matrixed project managers, analysts, and developers from other teams and/or contract employees as determined by need. This position will coordinate all project development throughout UW Medicine involving interfaces, data integration, and interoperability technology initiatives. Working relationships must also be established and productively maintained with key UW Medicine department leaders and group managers within IT Services.
Ability to lead, organize, and positively influence information technology professionals is a critical success factor. This position will periodically take responsibility for the project management of specific team projects or initiatives as well as producing requirements and functional specifications, developing project plans, managing project teams, mitigating risks, and resolving issues.
The application environment within UW Medicine includes multiple electronic health record systems, ancillary applications, departmental systems, interfaces, and clinical data repositories. An understanding of the interfaces and data integration with core EHR systems such as EpicCare and Cerner is critical to the success of the Interfaces and Data Integration Manager.
This position exercises substantial direction, independent judgment, and decision-making authority in applying the responsibilities called for. Responsibilities are carried out at a high level of technical expertise. Advice and counsel to ITS leadership, project managers, and staff for project planning and execution occurs frequently.
UW Medicine relies on enterprise-wide technological solutions and electronic information to enable the quickest and most reliable health care for its customers. These systems much be available on a 24/7 basis in order to allow Physicians, Nursing, and all other clinical staff access to vital patient information and clinical workflows. If the systems are not available, the potential for adverse impact to patient care or life as well as lost revenue are very real.
Manage and Lead Team (30%)
Supervise and direct team of ITS professionals to design, develop, implement, and support application interfaces that meet user requirements and are customer-service oriented.
Develop staff to achieve their own professional, organizational, and personal development goals.
Identify staffing requirements, including staff planning, recruitment, retention, training, coaching, supervision, evaluation, and performance improvement.
Communicate ITS and UW Medicine policies to team.
Build, grow, and support positive team culture; model leadership and teamwork.
- Identify and recommend appropriate staff and resources for projects.
- Assign resources for analysis and active projects.
- Monitor resource requirements across project activities and make adjustments, as needed.
- Manage operations and track to approved budget.
- May supervise contractors.
Systems Operation Management (30%)
Ensure production systems operate accurately, reliably, and efficiently Research and analyze system performance and plan improvement measures. Work closely with staff to analyze problems and implement solutions.
Review, execute on, and monitor progress for all vendor recommendations.
Sequence all vendor assessment recommendations; create and maintain roadmap for tasks.
Monitor Severity 1 and 2 tickets to ensure appropriate response time.
Ensure proper monitoring of system availability and performance and report associated metrics to ITS Leadership.
Establish and manage on-call staffing for 24/7 systems support.
Customer Relationship Management (20%)
Create and maintain a service-oriented relationship with customers.
Actively manage user relationships to analyze, plan, prioritize, and follow-up on project work and requests.
Build strong, collaborative relationships with other IT Services managers; participate in Project Intake, Enterprise Change Control, project work meetings, and other related activities.
Develop a strong working relationship with technical staff within ITS.
Participate in planning and budgeting process with ITS leadership to include identifying strategic goals and prioritizing needs.
Work with ITS leadership to build business cases for significant system improvements or replacement.
Develop strategy, budget, and roadmap in conjunction with ITS leadership teams.
Sequence action items from vendor assessment and provide budget input for successfully executing on plan.
Develop and report appropriate metrics for measuring progress, backlogs, workloads, staffing, and other project resources.
Vendor Management (5%)
Primary contact for vendor systems maintenance, support, and stability.
Provide oversight to vendor resources assigned to production work including project work and issue resolution.

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related discipline or equivalent combination of education/experience.
10+ years experience must include the following:
5+ years' experience that includes the following:
- Direct responsibility for leading teams supporting large-scale enterprise customers, both internal and external.
- Experience developing appropriate systems and metrics for measuring progress, backlogs, workloads, staffing, and other project resources.
Knowledge of interface, data integration, data exchange, and interoperability engines, products, and tools.
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams of 5 or more people.
Experience managing technology teams in performance turnaround situations.
Demonstrated leadership experience working with multiple, diverse stakeholders in a complex project environment.
Experience establishing analysis, systems design, programming, and quality standards.
Demonstrated ability to manage issue resolution.

The technical environment is highly complex and vital to the success of the UW Medicine mission.
Daily response to customer demands within imposed deadlines is required.
The ability to prioritize and manage time wisely is necessary when responding to questions and conditions immediately.
Requires the ability to efficiently travel to off-site locations to meet time-sensitive customer needs.
Generally work is during daytime hours, but evening and or night time work occasionally is required to support projects, particularly during implementation.
