From the laboratories of the Physiology and Biophysics department have come fundamental contributions to the understanding of the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, muscle contraction, endocrinology, respiration, ion channels, molecular motors, and the cytoskeleton. These successes have been achieved by the application of a host of principles and techniques from molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, engineering, and mathematics to the study of living cells and organisms. The Department of Physiology and Biophysics currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST ASSISTANT.
1. Perform behavioral training of animals and assist with animal care for experimental purposes. 2. Perform behavioral experiments of animals. 3. Construct microelectrodes for experimental use. 4. Prepare instruments for, and assist with, animal surgeries. 5. Operate and maintain instruments and equipment such as amplifiers, stimulators, data acquisition hardware, and computer systems. 6. Participate in lab meetings and planning sessions, and coordinate with other project and veterinary staff. 7. Order and maintain records of laboratory supplies. 8. Perform experimental data collection and assist in data analysis. 9. Stay current with regulations, required training and IACUC protocols
Bachelor's degree in a biological science
At least 3 months experience working with experimental animals, preferably non-human primates
1. Knowledge of basic biology 2. Knowledge of experimental animal management and protocols 3. Skills of basic computer, electronics and mechanical works, and data analysis (e.g., using excel or matlab)
