The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center is seeking a well qualified individual to be the Banquet Manager for their banquet and catering operation. The successful candidate will provide leadership to the Banquet service team and uphold the highest standard of hospitality and guest service during the daily operations of the banquet department. They will be responsible for optimizing revenues, controlling cost and maximizing profitability without compromising guest service and operational standards. Hands-on involved with hiring, training, development, coaching and counseling of team members; he/she will lead by example and consistently display a positive, can-do attitude. A team player, the Banquet Manager will interact with multiple departments to accomplish a multitude of goals, often with the direction and guidance from the Food & Beverage Director.
The successful candidate must have strong demonstrated banquet service knowledge and management experience in a banquet or conference center operation; demonstrated proficiency in full banquet bar service, inventory controls, cash bar handling and wine service is a must; also required are demonstrated strong guest service, hospitality and dining etiquette skills; must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, guests and business executives from private industry and the university; must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines; ability to exercise independent judgment, make decisions and solve problems.
Preference will be given for:
Management experience in a hotel restaurant/banquet environment; banquet/conference center experience; sanitation certification and experience with preparing work schedules.
