| Located in Bangor, Eastern Maine Medical Center is a 411-bed regional tertiary care center and the only specialty referral medical center serving the northern two-thirds of Maine. EMMC is a progressive organization on the leading edge of healthcare on many fronts. Our passion is providing the best patient care possible with a focus on excellent service, clinical quality, and patient safety. EMMC is currently seeking a board-certified/board-eligible neonatologist to join our staff. |
Our hospital has invested in a new $300 million tower which opened this year and includes brand new lobby and dining facilities and state-of-the-art NICU. In 2017, our modernization project continues with consolidated cardiac services, new surgical suites and post-anesthesia recovery unit, and a renovated labor and delivery unit.
Our State-of-the-art NICU opened in June 2016 with 29 single-family rooms, 6 of which can flex to accommodate twins. We actively use iNO, whole body cooling, HFOV, and bubble CPAP. We also have a strong nutritional focus including commitment to exclusive human milk feedings. We have just over 500 admissions a year, 20% of which are transports. Our neonatal transport team provides 24/7 coverage and is an RN-RN transport model with helicopter, fixed wing, and ground capabilities. A number of our NICU admissions are opiate-exposed and we have an active research and treatment commitment to these newborns and their families. We are part of the Vermont Oxford Network, host 3rd year medical student rotations from several universities, and have a Family Medicine Residency program. EMMC serves as the Regional Pediatric Specialty Center. In addition to an MFM-guided obstetrical program, pediatric subspecialty support includes pediatric surgery, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric neurology, pediatric cardiology, Infectious Disease, Pediatric Endocrinology, Genetics, Dermatology, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, Developmental, Pediatric Orthopedics, Pediatric Urology, and Pediatric Ophthalmology. Our provider team includes 4 neonatologists, 6 NNPs and 1 NICU pediatrician hospitalist. Our NNPs and hospitalist provide 24/7 in-house coverage for patient care and high-risk deliveries. Our NICU providers are involved in outreach education throughout the region and serve as NRP and STABLE Lead Instructors.
