The purpose of this position is to contribute to and coordinate research in poultry nutrition, seeking ways to improve the long term financial and social sustainability of the Virginia poultry industry. The person filling this position will be essential to conducting research on gastrointestinal function, energy metabolism, nutrient utilization and management and other various feeding and management techniques, including both farm and laboratory studies. Responsibilities will include management of experiments and protocols, including live animal management, analytical procedures, data collection and report generation, in addition to operation and maintenance of a nutrition laboratory which includes ensuring the proper operating and maintenance of classical nutrition laboratory equipment including but not limited to drying ovens, ash ovens, analytical balances, grinding equipment, heating blocks and fume hoods and other more specialized equipment that applies to classical nutrition research., performance of basic analytical techniques and assisting the supervising and training of students and other personnel in safe and efficient research activities.
Master's degree in Animal Science or related discipline and experience in handling and management of poultry and/or laboratory techniques. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently.
Ability to lift feed sacks of approximately 50lbs.
Experience managing animal studies from protocol generation to report generation.
