The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), Department of Physical Therapy is seeking a doctorally-prepared physical therapist faculty member with effective interpersonal skills, strong research training and interests in movement and/or neuromuscular domains, and a commitment to professional and graduate education. This full-time, tenure-track position will complement the department’s expanding research strengths in the area of motion analysis. Start-up funds are available. Faculty rank, and salary are commensurate with experience.
The department’s current Motion Analysis Laboratory is equipped with 10 Qualisys cameras, embedded force plates, isokinetic dynamometer, and Noraxon telemetry EMG. Newly renovated space will expand the lab to over 2700 ft2 and will house a virtual reality system with dual belt instrumented treadmill, 10 Qualisys cameras, Noraxon telemetry EMG and 64 channel EEG. Current projects include studies involving prosthetics and orthotics, fall prevention, and movement disorders.
The candidate would have the opportunity to interact with Biomedical Engineering Department and the Neuroscience Institute. Biomedical Engineering is a joint program with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and the University of Memphis. From its inception in 1996, the joint program has had annual enrollments of 60 or more fully supported Ph.D. and M.S. graduate research assistants. The Neuroscience Institute (http://www.uthsc.edu/neuroscience/) researchers study movement disorders in Parkinson’s disease and dystonia, as well as the motor deficits suffered with traumatic brain injury and stroke, in humans as well as animal models.
Established in 1911 the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) is located in the heart of a large urban medical complex in Memphis, TN. UTHSC is made up of 6 colleges: Health Professions, Dentistry, Graduate Health, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy. The Department of Physical Therapy, established in 1965, offers the entry level DPT degree. In addition, the department has an on-site faculty practice.
