The School of Neuroscience is seeking an Academic Advisor to assist with student advising and enrollment services. This position serves as the main point of contact for undergraduate students to the School of Neuroscience. Responsibilities of the position include academic advising, monitoring students' progress, registration and scheduling, orientation, and assisting students with career planning. The academic advisor assists with developing a recruitment plan that may include student communication and recruitment materials, website, social media, and other special projects as assigned. Responsibilities also include events planning and events coordination. The successful candidate will have a service-oriented, how-can-I-help-you attitude to support program operations.
Required Qualifications: Experience in academic advising, education, or career planning
Events planning experience
Experience with software such as Microsoft Office and Google products
Experince such as creating, editing, and maintaining large databases
Ability to manage confidential files and materials
Excellent communications, organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to interact comfortably and respectfully with all individuals in a diverse multicultural environment
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of academic policies and procedures relevant to undergraduate programs
Experience with Banner Student and HokieSpa
Knowledge of federal rules and regulations (FERPA)
Experience facilitating group sessions and making presentations
Experience with social media platforms
Bachelor's degree in Science, Counseling, Education, Student Development or related field, or equivalent training and/or work experience
