The Applications Analyst is responsible for configuring, testing, implementing and supporting clinical, financial, administrative and other healthcare information systems used for the delivery of patient care and other supporting functions of the organization. These systems include but are not limited to:
Clinical applications such as documentation, orders/results, Emergency Department (ED) and Pharmacy
Ancillary applications such as lab, radiology and cardiology
Revenue Cycle applications such as patient access and billing
Financial Applications such as materials management, payroll and human resources
Other IT applications including facilities, customer support and ITIL management
EDUCATION: High School Diploma required. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Required: Experience and/or training with healthcare information systems and terminology. Minimum five (5) years' experience with the application, module or equivalent system as assigned. Advanced knowledge of the assigned application in multiple functional areas. Expert knowledge of the assigned application in at least one functional area. Ability to mentor application analyst I and II. Excellent communication skills; customer focused; excellent attention to detail; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; strong interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment.
Proficient with Microsoft office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
Possesses logical structured thinking abilities and can develop sound business cases to support planning and critical decision making. Advanced presentation and facilitation skills. Ability to assume team responsibility in decision making in the absence of the Director.
Preferred: Two (2) or more years experience with the application, module or equivalent system as assigned. Two (2) or more years experience working in a Health Care Application Services department. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Advanced experience with Microsoft office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
Collaborates with key stakeholders, end users and other members of the business, patient care and Information Technology teams to optimize system configuration, function and access.
Works together with clinical and business advisory groups to provide system solutions that support and enhance the adoption of the electronic medical record and its supporting components.
Assures the Information Technology (IT) needs support the goals and objectives of the customer as well as the business needs of AtlantiCare.
Addresses system concerns for the end-users.
Prepares for and participates in system design, validation and/or remediation sessions.
Tests the system, including any configurations, customizations and new releases, prior to production implementation.
Evaluates problem tickets and service requests, customer requests for system changes, data retrieval requests, system performance problems and optimization opportunities, and participates in the timely resolution of these activities.
Responsible for the build and maintenance of various system dictionaries, profiles, tables and other configuration points.
Consistently and accurately maintains the system database as well as supporting documents to include new information and system codes, policies and procedures, user guides/manuals, and periodic data maintenance (purging, re-indexing, and/or change management documentation and testing) as required
Troubleshoots and resolves application errors and other system issues.
Identifies system enhancement requests and works with the team to communicate them to the vendor.
Works with end-users and the report writing team to assist with the design and testing of system reports.
Communicates system changes to the end users and training staff.
Participates as a team member in various projects.
Ensures a smooth and thorough turnover process to technical and operational support. This includes completion of all required change management and system turnover documents.
Actively participates in information exchanges, user groups, or training and assists in the preparation of materials to support user learning activities
Position may require local travel between various AtlantiCare locations.
Position may require participation in 24/7 department on-call program. On-call employees are required to carry a department issued phone or pager and comply with all aspects of the On-call policy. Must respond to calls within specified time, troubleshoot problem and provide services both on and off-site as needed.
Position may require participating in meetings outside of normal business hours including occasional evenings and/or weekends.
Has basic understanding of regulatory requirements as they relate to the supported applications.
Understands the importance of IT systems support to the delivery of care in a 7 x 24 environment and ensures application availability within set standards.
Understands the need to provide clinicians and other members of the healthcare team with the right information at the right time through the availability of seamless, accurate information.
Adheres to all AtlantiCare policies, procedures and standards.

Develops and maintains an expert/in-depth level of knowledge of the system application.
Actively leads and takes ownership for the build and maintenance of system dictionaries, profiles, tables and other configuration points. May supervise, mentor and/or train Applications Analyst I build / maintenance activity.
Responsible for innovative enhancement of system functionality.
Manages system enhancement requests directly with the vendor.
Troubleshoots and resolves highly complex application errors and other system issues
Responsible for addressing a high volume of system-related activities in a timely fashion while consistently maintaining a high level of quality and customer satisfaction.
Leads small to medium-sized projects.
Effectively collaborates with business department personnel to identify, document and meet business department information needs.
Understands data flow to/from other systems and works with the AIT Integration team to help resolve data integration issues.
Acts as a resource to other departments and applications systems analysts. Manages system concerns for the end-users.
May provide training to end users.
Has working knowledge of regulatory requirements and assures systems are on correct code level required for those requirements.
Primary ownership for the build and maintenance of highly complex system dictionaries, profiles, tables and other configuration points.
Independently resolves the most complex, multi-function application errors and system issues.
Leads and/or facilitates system design, validation and/or remediation sessions.
Makes sound recommendations and assists in the implementation of processes and workflows that enhance the use of system applications and/or facilitates quality improvement initiatives.
Leads large projects and functions as a subject matter expert on complex, cross-functional projects.
Collaborates effectively with project team members and applies accepted project management principles.
Coordinates the selection and purchase of hardware and related equipment that meet business needs.
Maintains an expert in-depth knowledge of the application and the departments using the application.
Advanced understanding of how the assigned application(s) impacts or is impacted by other systems throughout the AtlantiCare application architecture and works directly with the AIT Integration team to resolve complex data integration issues.
May develop and provide training to end users.
Assists in the technical development of staff. Helps to identify informal and formal training opportunities for peers. Provides appropriate work related assignments and participates in mentoring activities. This includes providing feedback to the employee and management staff on their performance as it relates to the technical aspect of their job.
Has advanced/in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and develops advanced planning related to the coordination of system upgrades and patch management in order to meet required timelines for compliance.
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment on an occasional basis, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Works with such equipment as computer terminal, fax machine, copier, and telephone. This position requires repetitive motion, fingering, hearing, pushing, reaching, reading, calculating, seeing, speaking, standing, and walking a majority of the time. Occasional driving also required.
