The Director of Network Services is responsible for strategic, policy, and long-term operational decisions that set the overall direction for the university's mission-critical network infrastructure, storage area networks and voice services. This position reports to the Chief Information Officer and directs the Network Services unit of ITCS (Information Technology and Computing Services). The ITCS Network Services unit provides data and voice communication services and storage area networking, and is responsible for the university's networking infrastructure, architecture and design, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
The Director of Network Services provides leadership and guidance through the analysis of industry trends, a macro understanding of network technology issues, and the collaborative evaluation of network service solutions. This position translates customer business needs into technology and service solutions.
The Director collaborates with internal and external campus stakeholders to develop operational standards for ITCS Network Services, as well as to develop annual and long-term plans for budget, personnel, and space. Additionally, the Director serves as the primary liaison to regulatory agencies, vendors and professional organizations as appropriate.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree and 5 years of related professional experience in overseeing or managing data network, network infrastructure, voice services or related fields in a large complex environment.
Or a relevant undergraduate degree and 7 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree and 7 years of related professional experience in overseeing or managing data network, network infrastructure, voice services or related fields in a large complex environment.
Proven strategic leadership and management, through envisioning future IT directions and goals, effective and efficient resource utilization, while setting high and achievable operational and service level objectives.
Demonstrated experience in overseeing, directing and leading highly professional and technical teams that support comprehensive, integrated, reliable, high-quality services within an enterprise-level solution that encompass backbone, local area, wide area, and high-performance networking; Internet access services; network infrastructure, security, and remote access; voice services; and storage area network technologies.
Demonstrated experience in managing operational budgets and projecting multi-year funding requirements that include, but are not limited to maintenance and support, service improvements and capacity for growth.
Ability to communicate complex technical topics in clear and relevant terms to technical and non-technical staff, clients and stakeholders.
