Manage and direct the operation of the Donor Center which includes tissue screening, coordination and authorization for tissue recovery and organ allocation. Responsible for providing administrative oversight and ensuring that clinical supervision is provided. Coordinate organ allocation efforts in pursuit of maximizing the number of organs allocated and transplanted. Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies for tissue and organ recovery and allocation. Act as liaison to tissue processing banks and local eye and skin banks. Reviews parameters regarding individual donor suitability with tissue partners. Manage and cultivate the relationship between the organization and local funeral homes and medical examiner offices.
Plan, direct and oversee the organ allocation process assuring adherence to clinical guidelines and UNOS policy with the highest ethical and professional standards. Ensure accountability for performance and careful adherence to procedures, protocols and regulations. Maintain excellent relationships with Transplant Centers and troubleshoots operational and communication issues.
Develop specific annual quality improvement goals, and continuously measure performance and process improvement. Receive and review feedback of donor process to improve quality of the process, as warranted. Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including accreditation, certification, federal, state, local and specific donation/ transplantation laws and requirements.
Function as a spokesperson for the advancement of tissue and organ donation. Maintain current knowledge in field through participation in UNOS, AATB, AOPO and related professional organizations.
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in health related field with five to seven years demonstrated leadership, communication and presentation skills required. Master’s degree preferred. CTBS certification (or eligibility) and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Working knowledge of continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes and knowledge of human anatomy and function required. Previous experience working with regulatory agencies preferred. Assume 24-hour call responsibility to ensure efficient operation of donation activities. Serves as primary contact and clinical expert to ensure efficient practice and compliance with regulatory and organizational policies. Supports and fosters the mission of the organization and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.
