As a member of the Human Resources Service Center team, support the full spectrum of academic and non-academic HR activity in the College of Engineering Computing & Information Science, and Cornell NYC Tech and serve as the first point of HR contact for assigned departments/units. Partner with Administrative Directors, supervisors and Department Chairs to support various aspects of human resources services including recruitment and selection support for staff and non-faculty academics, visa processing and tracking, leaves administration, payroll services, transaction processing, maintenance of personnel files and tracking of appointments and promotions. Serve as the first point of contact for information on HR processes and HR policy interpretation and liaise with University HR and subject matter experts as needed. Handle questionable cases requiring policy interpretation, utilizing judgment to refer unusual cases to supervisor. Develop resources and tools to aid human resource management and ensure high-quality customer service. Provide administrative and project support for staff- related issues. Handle sensitive and confidential matters and information with appropriate discretion and judgment. Provide backup to Assistant Director of HR and HR Generalist for transaction approval and in handling complex cases requiring policy interpretation and leave administration.
Associates Degree and 4 to 6 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience with office productivity software (e.g. MS Office), including use of advanced platforms to develop products to meet business needs. Proven effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality required. Effective organization, teamwork and problem solving skills. The ability to deliver high-quality customer service.
At least 5 years experience working in a fast-paced, high volume HR or operations context. Work experience in an academic environment. Extensive knowledge of HRIS such as Workday. Additional software skills and aptitude preferred.
