Advertised Summary Job Description: Position Title: Director of Higher Education Transition and Partnerships for the Columbia University Veterans' Center for Transition, Integration and Leadership; Director of Military Recruitment for the School of General Studies
Reporting to the Vice Dean of the School of General Studies with a dotted line to the Executive Director of the Veterans' Center, the Director is responsible for developing programming and partnerships focused on successful transition from service to higher education, at the undergraduate and graduate level, for Columbia University Veterans' Center for Transition, Integration and Leadership (Center).
Higher Education Transition Programming and Partnership: Oversee the enhancement, development, and implementation of strategies to achieve the Center's mission as it relates to successful transition from service to higher education. (50% - Creates the platform and partnerships that provides the tools necessary for successful identification of appropriate academic programs to achieve academic and professional goals for transitioning service members. - Overseas the design and implementation of innovative programs and partnerships to promote education and career pathways for veterans and is responsible for leading the coordination and collaboration of Veteran Services Organizations, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Veteran Affairs is these initiatives. - Partner with the Center for Teaching and Learning to design, develop, implement and maintain state of the art programming that utilize multiple modalities and designs to create access for thousands of veterans in transition. - Oversees the development and creation of online learning tools by the Center's team and develops additional public and private partnerships that facilitate academic transition to the undergraduate and graduate levels. Is the liaison to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the professional schools on campus in the effort to provide academic opportunities to officers in transition. - Manages relationships with key partners in higher education transition, including the Veteran Service Organizations affiliated with the Center, and government organizations. - Participates and speaks at relevant industry/sector conferences and events.
Military and Veteran Recruitment Initiatives: Oversee the enhancement and further development of military and veteran recruitment initiatives at the School of General Studies and is the liaison for the Veterans' Center to all other schools on campus regarding military and veteran recruitment initiatives for Columbia University.(50%) - Serves as the main point of contact for the Veterans' Center and GS for military and veteran recruitment initiatives. - Builds additional strategic relationships with partners, existing and prospective, to achieve GS long-term goal of maintaining a significant enrollment of veteran students in perpetuity. - Responsible for developing and managing the GS military-connected recruitment strategy. Collaborates with the Admissions team and two-year education partners to facilitate military and veteran recruitment activities at the School of General Studies. - Represents the Veterans' Center and GS at recruitment events, conferences, information sessions and other activities. - Ensure consistent evaluation of impact, including collecting qualitative and quantitative information on participation, and reporting on performance metrics.

General Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree preferred. Five or more years of senior nonprofit management experience or work with or in higher education. Five or more years of military related experience or experience working with veteran services organizations. Strong organizational abilities including planning, elegating, program development and task facilitation. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills required. Strong public speaking ability.
