The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Child Development, Foothill College.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Primary responsibility of a Child Development Instructor is to teach a variety of college-level courses that fulfill either general education requirements, or count towards the Associate of Arts degree in Child Development or AD-T in Early Childhood Education. Provide classroom instruction in accordance with established course outlines while using comparative cross-cultural, multicultural, and multidisciplinary perspectives.
Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.
- Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
- Master's in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent.
NOTE: Official Transcripts verifying qualifications will be REQUIRED prior to an offer of employment. Applicants who have international transcripts must obtain transcripts that are evaluated by an independent educational-equivalency evaluation company and obtain an English translation (if necessary). These services are to be done at the applicant's expense. Both Foothill De Anza CCD employees and external candidates must submit transcripts.
- Experience in teaching in an Early Childhood setting (children ages 0-8).
- Advocacy in the field of early childhood education, and active participation on local and/or statewide child development communities.
- Successful experience teaching students of ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds at the community college level.
- Experience and/or strong interest in teaching courses online.
- Initiative and ability to develop courses.
- Commitment to the mission of the community college and its philosophy of education.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and interest in working cooperatively with colleagues in multiple departments and in serving on college committees in a shared governance organization.
- Experience teaching school age children.
- In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge, ability, and enthusiasm to teach any of the Department's Child Development lower-division courses including, but not limited to: School Age Child, Infant/Toddler Development, Atypical Infant Development, Affirming Diversity in Education, Child Growth and Development, Observation, Child Development, Curriculum for the Preschool Classroom, Language Development, Child Family and Community, Positive Behavior Management, Mentoring, Practicum, or Administration and Supervision.
- Knowledge of and experience with current computer software as it relates to higher education and Child Development.
- Commitment and ability to advise and mentor students related to career and transfer options, to include service-learning and internship activities.
- Ability to use various teaching methods in both a classroom and laboratory setting that a) engage students in their own learning, including outcomes that motivate students to develop higher-order thinking skills, and b) ensure consistent and appropriate monitoring of student progress.

HIRING RANGE: $57,066.00 - $93,722.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
