The Division of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking an experienced physician-investigator with expertise in primary care redesign and health services research. The incumbent would be responsible for leading a team of primary care physicians, PhDs, and other research support personnel and would direct projects involving the medical home model of care. Clinical care associated with this position will be through affiliated programs at the Iowa City VA and/or at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The successful candidate will work within the Comprehensive Access and Delivery Research and Evaluation Center (CADRE), a VA Health Services Research and Development Center of Innovation at the Iowa City VAMC. The Center includes physician, nurse, and PhD investigators as well extensive support staff in statistics, data analysis and management, medical anthropology, and qualitative research methods. This highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research Center creates an ideal environment for primary care research and redesign. The position also offers opportunities for collaborations with investigators at the Institute for Clinical Translational Science, an NIH CTSA program housed at the University of Iowa.
MD or DO degree
The successful candidate must be authorized to provide clinical care in the U.S., and be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the Tenure Track.
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate outstanding skills in teaching, clinical medicine, decision making, communication, and collaboration.
Individuals hired at the rank of at least Associate Professor are expected to have evidence of scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications and a track record of independent funding in the areas of primary care or healthcare delivery.
board certified in Internal Medicine.
Highly desirable attributes include a working knowledge and experience in a medical home model of primary care, with preference given to applicants with experience in the VA patient care models of care.
Experience with implementation science, quality improvement, and quasi-experimental research methods in primary care settings will be valuable skills.
A working of knowledge of qualitative research methods is also highly desired.
